Citizens watching the watchers

That reminds me of all the news stories from Baghdad over the past decade about local militia groups (with AK47s) setting up roadblocks and policing their own neighbourhoods. But I’ve got to disagree with you on the ‘citizens watching the watchers’ remark. You probably wont catch any Hispanic people doing it, and almost definintely wont catch any white or Asian people doing it; and the folks that are doing it probably aren’t the most law abiding bunch in the first place.
That said, self-policing (in these present times) is defintely a step forward. It’s like a return to community policing of the pre Robert Peel era, when everyone would look out for criminals and ‘night watchmen’ were local volunteers rather than salaried workers.

I am heartened that you sympathize with self policing initiatives but I am dismayed you do not seem to see the sense in citizens monitoring state operated law enforcement officials.

Sorry, I didn’t express myself clearly. I meant to say that I didn’t consider that the people in the video were ‘citizens watching the watchers’. They strike me that they are only concerned with ‘pro-black/anti-white’ politics. Hence the ‘Black Riders for Liberation’ name, Marxist salutes. If I was a white man being harassed by the police, do you think that they would take an interest in defending me? Probably not. I mean, just listen to the lyrics they chant:
#Black power black people#
#Zulu style#
That’s not about watching the watchers, like Alex Jones etc do, that’s about race. That’s Pro-Black/Anti-White. If they dropped those racial chants and protected white people then yes I’d be more inclined to consider them watchers. It seems like they need a Malcom X ‘all races living in harmony in Mecca’ moment.
